Scavenger Hunt @ Jurong Lake Park

This week's Scavenger Hunt definitely tested the observation skills, navigation, endurance as well as teamwork of our students.

The event started out at Jurong Lake Park and teams of 4 (1 facilitator, 1 student volunteer, 2 students) had to look through the entire area in search of the 15 clues that are located in all the different zones. Everyone is only given a time limit of 2 hours to complete their tasks. Congratulations to hui hui's team for finishing first in this event :)

Preparation for Open House

We started off with frisbee for our warm-up session at the basketball court and everyone spent most of the time running around everywhere trying to catch hold of the frisbee (which was like a UFO saucer flying in all directions). No photos for this warm up because the frisbee was always outside of the camera angle (flying too fast)

Anyway we had volleyball soon after and it was equally tough trying to bring the ball over the very tall net. Everyone took turns to serve the ball to the other side and that definitely need a lot of practice and perseverance. Great job to everyone ;)

We went on to have a discussion on our games stall for the Jurong SSC open house on the 7th of September. Some suggestions we come up include para-para dance machine, the classic can & ball throwing, squash ball throwing on balloons (sounds tough), ping pong ball game etc. We will be trying out the different games during our preparation session two weeks later.

Outward Bound- finally :)

Yuhua Club Gusto scaled the Southern Ridges today!
After a general briefing and warm up, we began our ascend from Marang Trail. With a height of 24 storeys, this trail proved challenging for some.

Still, we were rewarded with breathtaking views of the harbour upon reaching the peak of Mt Faber!

After a short rest, we made our way to Henderson Waves. This is the highest pedestrain bridge in Singapore and it links Mt Faber to Telok Blangah Hill. Standing at 36m above Henderson Road, a wonderful sight awaited us as we stopped for a picnic.

We had a good rest as we tucked into sandwiches, fruit juices and even 2 birthday cakes.:) the highlight of the picnic was a birthday celebration for 2 of our students, Dion and Melvin!

Thereafter, we continued our journey on the Forest Walk. The gentle sloping elevated steel platform offered a lovely view of the secondary forest and the neighbouring skyline. We paused every now and then to simply admire the greenery around us.

Along the way, we paused at one of the shelters to play team building games.
1st game: Geometry

How to play: Participants will get into a group and each of them will hold a portion of the closed loop of raffia. They will form various geometric shapes and the level of difficulty increases with each ‘constraint’ – such as not being able to converse and not being able to see.

2nd game: Spiderweb

How to play: Unlike a spider which can navigate on the web itself, participants are to get through the 3D web without touching the sides of it. They would have to restart if they were to touch the sides of the web once too many times.

3rd game: Hole in space

How to play: Each participant has to pass through the space(create a square from a closed loop of raffia) from one side to another. In doing so, they have to carry their friends across in a safe manner.

By then, it was already time to go. Everyone looked visibly tired as we made our way to the end of our walk to alexandra arch, and then to the bus stop for the bus driver to take us back to Yuhua.

Special thanks to zhenyou for uploading them. Looking forward to more outings in the future. Right now, i'm doing a revamp on the blog, it might take some time and some technical glitches, but don't give up on this place yet. The final product will be better than before.
